Moving In Merida - UPDATE~
Mexico is a country with a rich cultural heritage and a
diverse population. From the bustling streets of Mexico City to the laid-back
beaches of the Yucatan Peninsula, there is no shortage of things to see and do.
Whether you're interested in exploring ancient ruins, sampling traditional
cuisine, or learning to salsa dance, there is something for everyone.
Living in Mexico can also be an affordable option,
particularly when compared to the cost of living in many Western countries. The
cost of food, housing, and transportation can be significantly lower, allowing
individuals to live comfortably on a smaller budget.
However, living in Mexico can also present challenges,
particularly for those who do not speak Spanish fluently. It can be difficult
to navigate day-to-day tasks, such as paying bills or interacting with
government officials, without a solid grasp of the language. Additionally,
safety can be a concern in certain areas of the country, particularly for
foreigners who may be perceived as easy targets for theft or other crimes. I will always note that Merida is the second safest city in North America next to Quebec.
Overall, living in Mexico can be a rewarding and exciting experience for those who are open to new experiences and willing to embrace the challenges that come with living in a foreign country.
Moving has it challenges no matter where you are and the physicality of moving, especially a you get older, can be exhausting so making your move as easy as possible on the body and mind are definitely goals.
I mentioned in my video that I used a local realtor and it was not what I expected at all. In the states when we use realtors they send listings/MLS and you choose the places you want to see, not so much here. And remember Mexico time has nothing on CPT LOL. People move at their own pace for sure. Keep this is mind for EVERTHING, fast food ain't even fast here LOL.
I found it easier and more time efficient to reach out to Cartess (my buddy) from Move Abroad and Thrive for assistance as he is well connected, thorough and I get to support local business. It was an awesome experience and it ran smoothly. I suggest working with him or someone that you can trust.
Merida is beautiful and peaceful. Merida is also loud, crowded and growing. Just like many cities in many places, Merida is a fluid representation of LIFE. The city is alive and I love the energy here.
To help you transition here are some Merida moving tips!
Tips for Moving Locally
Plan ahead: It is important to plan your move ahead of time. Start by creating a moving checklist and a timeline for the tasks that need to be completed before, during, and after the move.
Declutter: Before packing your belongings, take the time to
declutter your home. This will not only help you get rid of items you no longer
need or want, but it will also make your move much easier.
Label and organize: When packing, label your boxes and
organize them by room. This will make unpacking easier and less time-consuming.
Hire professional movers: If you have a lot of heavy or
fragile items, consider hiring professional movers to help with the move. This
will ensure that your belongings are transported safely and efficiently.
Inform necessary parties: Make sure to inform your utility
companies, bank, and other necessary parties about your move to ensure that
everything is in order before you leave.
Tips for Moving Abroad
Research the culture: Before moving to a new country, take
the time to research the culture, customs, and traditions. This will help you
adjust to your new surroundings more easily.
Obtain necessary documents: Make sure you have all the
necessary documents for your move, such as a visa, passport, and any other
required paperwork. Make sure to also obtain necessary documents for your pets,
if applicable.
Plan your finances: Moving abroad can be expensive, so it's
important to plan your finances ahead of time. Consider the cost of living in
your new country and make a budget for your move.
Pack smart: When moving abroad, it's important to pack
smart. Only bring items that are essential and that you can't replace in your
new country.
Learn the language: If the country you're moving to has a different language than your own, consider taking language classes before your move. This will help you communicate more effectively with the locals and make your transition smoother.
Using the above methods should ensure an easier transition to wherever you choose to live.

Additionally, it gives you the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights from someone with more experience in the field. Finally, having a consultation can also give you access to resources and contacts that could potentially help bring your plans into fruition.
