Temporary Visa Application Process

There are a variety of different types of temporary visas, each with their own administrative requirements, eligibility criteria and application processes.

For example: Temporary Working Holiday Visas allow nationals to temporarily enter Australia for up to 12 months. Temporary Resident Visa subclass 489 permits the holder to be in Australia indefinitely. Temporary Resident Visa: subclass 489The subclass Visa is an Australian permanent visa. The holder of a subclass 489 visa may be in Australia indefinitely. The holder may, however, stay in Australia for up to 12 months at a time on the condition that they leave after if they have already spent more than 12 months continuously staying in Australia. Wow Right!

Every country has it’s on rules of engagement to obtain residency whether it be temporary or permanent. Due diligence is of the utmost importance when researching your options to live abroad.

Temporary Residency in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico

Start in the US!
Wherever you are make an appointment at the consulate and start the process there in the US. As a RULE you must start in the US and complete your residency in Merida (in this case).

What to do If you do not follow this process: You will have to return to the US for an appointment with the Consulate. You can get Legal assistance with making the appointment, however, it may not be in the state in which you reside, so be open to going where you need to go to make it happen captain.

Finishing in Merida, once you complete the US side of the residency process, you complete it here in Merida. This is where having legal representation is of a GREAT help! Law firms like Valeria’s, will schedule appointments at immigration and even have a representative stand in line for you.
She will walk you through each step and ensure that your documents are correctly filed. You will need help, remember all of this is in Spanish!

Visa Program: 2020, 2021 & extended now into 2022! What does that look like; If you have traveled to Merida twice within this timeframe you qualify for this program. I do not now, I will in 2023 if they extend the program which it looks like they will however there is no guarantee.

 Important Information (Temporary Visa)
  • No Business Accounts accepted only Personal Accounts

  • Joint Accounts are accepted

  • 12 months of bank statements

  • Make sure all your information matches on your birth certificate and Passport

  • There is a minimum savings dollar amount account needed

  • Digital Paperwork accepted (via email)

  • Additional Passport picture will be needed for the consulate visa

  • You may need an Apostille, which is a birth certificate verification document, and it must be obtained through the secretary of state

  • Tourist Visa Extension is NOT recommended! It’s the same process as getting temporary residency, yes, they ask for all the paperwork! There was an office in Campestre offering these services, but it has since been closed.

  • If you need to travel while you go through the process it is advised, the closest place to take a quick vacation other than the states is Belize and as a plus it’ll renew your tourist visa.


Now Let’s Get Into Fees (Family Visa Program)
  • $5,180 PESOS PER PERSON for 1 yr Visa and that is what it allowed until you renew in one year which will be for the remaining 3 yrs,

  • You renew every 4 years $5,000 PESOS PER PERSON

  • NO Financial paperwork needed for renewals!

  • Legal Fees $6000 PESOS PER PERSON

Reasons for the Visa Temporary Process

It was explained to me that the reason for these processes is that most people that move here are retired and over 65 with the fixed income, so the laws are sort of shaped to this demographic. HOWEVER, things are changing and that’s why many procedures and processes are being created, implemented, and extended to assist foreigners who want to live abroad.

PLEASE BEWARE!

There’s fraudulent legal representation out there just like any place so beware!
  1. This entire process should cost you no less than $500 to $1000 USD!
  2. If someone is trying to charge you 5 or 6 thousand dollars, it’s a READ flag!
  3. If the website has no picture or contact information other than WhatsApp, that’s a RED flag!
  4. Research any legal advisors or law firms you choose to work with to ensure the legitimacy of the agency.
