Homelessness in America and How to Find a Home Overseas
What is Homelessness?
Homelessness refers to the condition whereby a person lacks a regular, safe, and permanent home. It is often caused by poverty, unemployment, mental illness or addiction.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness defines homelessness as “the situation where people are without a permanent home or adequate housing and have few, if any resources to acquire safe and affordable housing they need.”
How We Got here - The Historical Roots of the American Poverty Problem
Today, the United States is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. However, there are still many people who live in poverty. The U.S. poverty rate is about 15%. This means that about 1 in 7 Americans live below the poverty line and are struggling to meet their basic needs.
The American welfare state has been around for a long time, but it was not until President Lyndon B. Johnson's War on Poverty that we saw a serious effort to reduce poverty nationwide. The War on Poverty sought to provide more resources for low-income families through such programs as food stamps and Medicaid, as well as job training and education programs designed to help people get out of poverty and stay out of it. The economy also sought to provide more resources for low-income families through such programs as the G.I. Bill, which we know some were able to access while others were not and tax credits for investments in education and skills training. However, poverty continued to persist.
Studies have found that black people make up 40% of the homeless population. The number is 3x higher than other races. There are many causes for this such as lack of education, a criminal record, or even mental illness.
A recent study has also shown that six billion people are living in extreme poverty. That is one third of the world's population. This number has remained unchanged for the last 50 years. While there are some countries which have seen a decrease in this number, those countries that have an increase outweigh them by a large margin. The United States sees an increase of 25.6% on the global level. The number of obese people is rising on a global scale, according to a study published in The Lancet medical journal, with the highest rates seen in North America and Europe. In 2014, the global prevalence of obesity was 42%, up from 37% in 1980, according to data from 188 countries collected by researchers at two universities. They found that by 2030 this could rise to 56%.
Being Black and Homelessness
The United States is home to the largest black population in the world. And yet, one of the most shocking statistics is that 1 in 4 African Americans are homeless.
In this article, we will explore the reasons why so many African Americans are homeless, as well as what can be done to help them get off the streets and into homes of their own.
The United States has had a long history of not caring about black people. An underlying problem is that the country was built on the backs of enslaved human beings and the government is still an active body of oppression. There are many reasons why black people have become homeless in the United States.
The U.S. has a history of being less than welcoming to black people, and this has led to an increase in homelessness for many African-Americans. After slavery was abolished, many former slaves were left without work or resources. Even today, racial discrimination is a problem in the working world and can lead to poverty and homelessness. Bullying is also a common cause of homelessness among black children in America.
It is hard for people to find jobs because they are constantly being discriminated against and they don't have a quality education system that will help them get ahead in life. Black people make up only 13% of the population, but they account for 28% of the unemployed. This is largely because we are often seen as unintelligent and lazy, which perpetuates this stereotype in society. This is an important issue because it directly affects people's individual lives and society as a whole.
In today’s society even with education, we fall prey to government tactics and the dis-ease of the U.S. Black small businesses are not supported on local levels and suffer significantly from little to no marketing, bank loans or advertising assistance.
America itself has a glass ceiling and only those in power can remove it.
Black Folks Living Outside of America
We are often left out of the narrative of international success stories.
Black people living abroad is not a new phenomenon, but their numbers have grown in recent years. The African American population in Europe has tripled since 1990, and African Americans now make up one-third of the black population in the United States.
This is due to a number of factors, such as increased ease of travel and rising incomes in the U.S. making it affordable to live as Nomads and retirees in Mexico, Thailand and many other locations. In addition, black people living abroad often face less discrimination than they would back home.
Black people living abroad are more likely to be educated and wealthier than those who stay behind. They also tend to be less religious and more politically liberal than their counterparts who live in America or Europe. In some parts of the world, black people have faced harsh racially motivated persecution. In the United States, the Civil Rights Movement (mid-20th century) sought to end such discrimination and promote equal rights for all Americans regardless of race. Some black people, especially in North America and Europe, have been subjected to racial profiling because of their race. Blacks in the United States also face disproportionately high rates of poverty and unemployment as a result of institutional racism.
It is important for people of color to know that there are many other countries out there that may be a better fit for them and to consider moving to them or at minimum exploring other options.
We should always be able to move around the world without being met with a lot of judgment and racism.
The world needs to become a safe place for us. You have the power to change YOUR world, take advantage of your options to live a better life.
